Incoherence, too. This time, it’s personal!

So anyway, we zoom in on Charlie and Duncan, pulling up into a La Quinta Inn parking lot in her pink and black Camero knock off the funny business fine fine okay.

We see Charlie and Duncan pulling up into a motel parking lot, screeching to a halt, and getting out in a hurry. She is yelling.

CHARLIE: What the fuck was that? And why are you so calm? What is happening?

DUNCAN: [pulls out a Lucky Strike Red] Look, hon. Calm down, okay? We don’t know what is happening, and yes, that was frightening. But it’s always a good idea to calm down, right? [Lights his smoke]

CHARLIE: Calm down?! How can you be calm when people are running around shooting and the power is out and and [hits her vape hard, starts coughing blueberry clouds] *hack* *HACK*

DUNCAN: Hon, it’s okay. [Puts arm around Charlie] I get it, it’s scary. Let’s finish a smoke and we can head up and see if there’s anything on the telly? Okay?…

Duncan’s phone rings. It’s a sax playing the opening bars to L.A. Law, which is lost on most of the audience.

DUNCAN: Haylo. … Uh.. well, yeah, I was able to watch some of it, a sports blues bar. Yeah, it’s chaos. What do you know about it?

A dark, well-lit room. Admiral Akbar, whose name is a sneaky Star Wars reference, holds an old rotary phone in his hand, with a long red curly cord. He looks pretty serious.

AKBAR: We’ll be extracting you soon, but need you to keep observing. The girl you are with is 22, name’s Charlie Becket, and her father is ex-Navy Seals. She legit has no idea what is going on, nor does he, but we’ll be making sure anyone with a need to know is informed before phase 2 begins, sometime in the coming weeks.

DUNCAN: Right, well that’s a lot to think about. I think we should take shelter and see what is on the news. Might need a drink or two. Pretty rattled.

AKBAR: I don’t … Oh. Look, Duncan. This is important. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT blow your cover, no matter what happens. The President suspects something, but until we are in the blue and clear, it’s important to maintain appearances. Be careful. Out.

Duncan puts his phone back in his pocket.

DUNCAN: Let’s get a room and maybe some room service. How’s that sound?

CHARLIE: [pauses] I’m.. You’re not a cop, right?

DUNCAN: [laughs] Ha! Charlie, I don’t care if you’re smoking the weed, just want to make sure you stay out of real trouble. Okay?

Charlie looks at him, looks around, and nods as they walk into the lobby.
