We pan out from a nondescript violet blue form, with sqawking noises.
MALE VOICE: I really love this place. Have you ever been?
The form resolves into a great blue whale, which is not a real species, and the camera pans down to reveal the noises coming from a small flock of penguins.
ROSE: To an aquarium? [she laughs]
TELLY: Haha. No, but really, this is maybe the best one in the country.
ROSE: [looking rosily up at the high ceilings, her teeth vivid under the black lights] Oh REALLY? [she laughs again]
TELLY: When I was a kid, I used to have this fear that I would jump into the open tank from the top level and be devoured by the sharks.
They mosey over to the spiral walkway, snaking their way among throngs of families. You can tell they are in love, and there’s no CGI or AI involved. That is directing.
ROSE: You were afraid you’d jump?!
TELLY: Yeah, well. You know like if you’re at the platform at the Empire State Building, you like..
ROSE: I don’t have a death wish. [laughs. this part is a rom com maybe.]
TELLY: Yeah, well. I mean–
A child of maybe 10 runs into them and his chocolate ice cream scoop plops rudely onto Telly’s pants. Rose knows better at this point than to laugh *at* her fiancée, but nevertheless, she persists..
ROSE: OMG HAHA–
TELLY: god DAMMIT!
The boy looks up and his eyes widen. Suddenly, without warning, an alarm blares over the PA system.
ATTENTION FISH PATRONS! THE NEXT DOLPHIN SHOW STARTS IN 15 MINUTES ON THE WHARF!!
Telly’s eyes widen. The boy runs away.
TELLY: Oh fuck! Is it 5 already? Shit. We better head if we want to get to Tina’s on time. And I definitely need to change now. Shit.
ROSE: [soberish] Ok hon, calm down. Shit happens. We have time. And I think it looks good on you.
Telly examines his crotch.
TELLY: Funny. I’m sorry we didn’t really get… dammit!! Are you *sure* you even want to go? You don’t even like Tom.
ROSE: [staring at him]. Babe, she’s *your* friend. And plus it’s Catan night, pretty sure. Without us, whose gonna build those roads? We can’t flake though. C’mon, little guy, let’s get you home and out of those filthy clothes… [snicker].
Telly stares at her.
Cut to a crowded train. Telly stands next to Rose who sits with her purple purse in her lap, as buildings rush by out the window.
ED: Suffolk Downs. Next stop, Suffolk Downs.
ROSE: I don’t know why you’re so upset. We can go back any day, and we’ve done a lot already. We’ll jump in the shower, get an Uber, and you’ll be fine. You need a drink, I think.
TELLY: I just. I’m sorry, okay? I just hate unexpected change of plans.
ROSE: Well, hate to break it to you, babe, that’s how life works.
TELLY. Yeah, yeah. I just like consistency. I’ve had plenty of surprises lately.
ROSE: Well, only a fool–
Suddenly, and without warning, the scene ends.
